How to create and manage a convoy for group drives
Plan a group drive or ride with Odo Convoy: invite friends, set a meeting point and duration, turn on the walkie-talkie and Convoy SOS, and manage the convoy while it runs.
A convoy puts everyone in your group on one live map for as long as the drive lasts, from the first car out to the last one home. Location is shared only while the convoy runs and is deleted when it ends.
Before you start
- Convoy uses Odo's Friends feature, which signs in with Apple. Everyone joining needs a Friends profile.
- Add the people you drive with as friends, by username or by sharing your invite link.
Create a convoy
- 1
Open the Convoy card
Go to the Friends tab in Odo and start a new convoy from the Convoy card.
- 2
Choose when
Start now, or schedule it up to 7 days ahead. Location sharing opens 30 minutes before a scheduled start.
- 3
Set the length
Pick 2, 4, 8, 12 or 24 hours, or a custom length from 30 minutes. You can extend it later, up to 24 hours in total.
- 4
Add a meeting point
Optional. Members are marked as arrived when they get there.
- 5
Choose the options
Get notified when someone joins or everyone arrives, decide whether members see each other's speed, and turn on the walkie-talkie or Convoy SOS if you want them.
- 6
Invite your friends
Pick up to 19 friends, for 20 people including you. They get an invite in the app and join with a tap.
The walkie-talkie and Convoy SOS
- Walkie-talkie (beta)
- Members hold the talk button to send a voice message of up to 30 seconds to everyone. Messages arrive through Apple's Push to Talk, even when Odo is closed. You can turn it on or off during the convoy.
- Convoy SOS
- When on, an Emergency SOS from any member alerts everyone in the convoy and marks that person in red on the map.
During the convoy
- The live map shows every member; tap Show Everyone to fit the whole group, or a name to find one person.
- Members can navigate to the meeting point in the app, or tap I'm Here when they arrive.
- As the creator, you can invite more people, rename the convoy, extend it, remove a member or end it.
- On CarPlay, members see the nearest people in the convoy and their positions on the map, and can use the walkie-talkie.
Privacy
Positions are shared only with members, only while the convoy runs, and are deleted when it ends. Walkie-talkie messages reach only members and are deleted when the convoy ends.
