OBD2 on Apple CarPlay: live engine data on your car's screen

See RPM, coolant temperature, fuel level and trouble codes on your CarPlay screen with Odo and an OBD2 adapter. What you get, how to set it up, and how to customise the CarPlay gauges.

With an OBD2 adapter and Odo, your car's CarPlay screen can show live engine data alongside your speed and trip. Set up the adapter once on your iPhone, and from then on Odo reconnects to it by itself whenever CarPlay starts.

Set it up

  1. 1

Connect the adapter on your iPhone

Plug in a Bluetooth LE or Wi-Fi ELM327-compatible adapter and connect it once from Garage → OBD II.

  2. 2

    Start CarPlay

Connect your iPhone to CarPlay, wired or wireless, and open Odo on the car's screen. The adapter reconnects automatically.

  3. 3

    Pick your gauges

In Odo's CarPlay settings on your iPhone, choose which stats appear on the Live tab and in what order, and which tab opens first.

The OBD tab

  • Connection status and check-engine light status, with a tap to reconnect the adapter.
  • This session's peaks for the main readings.
  • Live readings grouped by system, with boost, fuel economy and air/fuel ratio worked out for you.
  • Any custom readings you've set up for the vehicle.
  • Trouble codes: stored, pending and permanent counts, read automatically when the adapter connects. Clearing codes is done on your iPhone.

Engine data on the Live tab

The Live tab shows up to eight stats in a grid or list. Mix trip stats like speed, distance and top speed with engine readings such as RPM, engine load, coolant and oil temperature, fuel level, throttle, intake and outside air temperature, battery voltage, airflow, fuel rate, economy and the check-engine light.

Smarter Places

When your fuel drops below 20% or the check-engine light comes on, the Places tab adds a recommended section with nearby fuel stations or garages.
