CarPlay Navigation with Lane Guidance and Voice Search
Directions on the screen built into your car.
Odo’s turn-by-turn navigation runs on the CarPlay map with route choices, lane guidance and spoken directions, and follows you onto the CarPlay Dashboard and, on supported cars, the instrument cluster.
Why it matters
Your car’s own screen is the safest place for directions: it’s large, in your line of sight, and controlled with the buttons and voice your car already has. Running navigation in the same app that records your trip, reads your engine and shows your convoy means one app for the whole drive.
Where to?
Choose a destination without typing: say it, pick from your saved places, or let Odo suggest where you’re probably headed based on your past drives.
- Say a place: voice destination search on CarPlay
- Search with the CarPlay keyboard when parked
- “On your way to” suggestions learned from your drives
- Saved places, frequent and recent destinations
- Start on your iPhone and the route continues on CarPlay, and the other way round
Route previews and choices.
Before you go, compare routes with their travel times and pick the one you want.
- Several route options with estimated times
- Routes from Apple Maps, from your own past drives, or an open-map fallback where Apple has no directions
- Avoid tolls, highways or ferries
- Motorcycle routing when your default vehicle is a motorcycle
Guidance you can follow at a glance.
Clear maneuvers with lane guidance and spoken instructions, an arrival time that updates as you drive, and prompts when the situation changes.
- Lane guidance
- Voice guidance you can turn on or off
- A full list of upcoming directions
- Off route: reroute, or keep your route
- Faster route found: take it or ignore it
- Next turn and arrival time in the Dynamic Island on your iPhone
Stops along the way.
Add a stop for fuel, charging or food from the car’s screen, skip one you no longer need, or let Odo put your stops in the best order.
- Add fuel, EV charging, food or a saved place as a stop
- Skip a stop
- Optimize the order of several stops
Dashboard and instrument cluster.
On the CarPlay Dashboard, Odo’s map follows your car and shows your route, with two one-tap destination buttons. On cars that support it, the instrument cluster behind the wheel shows a heading-up map with your route.
- Map that follows your car on the CarPlay Dashboard
- Two one-tap destinations, such as Home and Work
- Heading-up route map in supported instrument clusters
- Choose whether CarPlay opens to the map, your stats, or the last screen you used
Your group and your friends, on the map.
When you’re in a convoy, members appear on the navigation map, and the walkie-talkie and SOS alerts work right from the car’s screen.
- Convoy members drawn on the map
- Walkie-talkie button: tap to talk, tap to send (beta)
- Incoming SOS alerts from friends, with directions to them
The CarPlay Dashboard and instrument cluster map depend on your car’s CarPlay support. Navigation needs a data connection to plan routes.
